State-funded business support is a subject likely to be discussed at business training events this year, after the Government announced plans for reform.

It plans to overhaul the current network of regional Business Link services with an improved national website supported by a call centre.

The existing system will close in November, and so far has served around 100,000 customers a year since April 2007.

However the new national website will provide training services and online tools for businesses to use on the move.

Customers will be able to access them at any time from their own computer or mobile device.

Online access to company registration will also be made available, and a national contact centre will provide a network of at least 40,000 business mentors.
